Ms. Barrett provides legal solutions and business guidance to entrepreneurs, corporate decisions-makers and individuals about critical business law issues. Her diverse group of clients frequently turns to her for assistance with start-up and organizational matters, design and negotiation of business acquisitions, private securities offerings, corporate governance issues, restructurings including mergers and conversions, corporate finance and a wide range of other general corporate and transactional matters.


Ms. Barrett’s clientele range from Fortune 500 companies to local small businesses operating in a wide range of industries including technology, railroad services, hospitality, food and beverage, retail, beauty, entertainment, gaming, insurance, and professional services such as veterinary medicine, accounting and architecture. She strives to provide excellent service to each client no matter the size or complexity of their organization or transaction. She enjoys learning about the unique features of each of her client’s businesses and the industries in which they operate and becoming a trusted adviser to their management and legal teams.


While she has represented clients operating in a wide range of industries, she has considerable expertise advising clients in both the financial services industry and electric utility industry.


Ms. Barrett represents credit unions and credit union service organizations on general transaction and regulatory matters. She is the former chair of the Credit Unions Committee of the American Bar Association Business Law Section. She regularly represents her credit union clients in negotiating of vendor agreements, merger transactions, corporate governance matters and various regulatory compliance matters involving state and federal laws and regulations.


Her electric utility clients turn to her for advice on general corporate matters relating to business organizations and governance issues under Texas law. She has extensive experience assisting her clients with corporate finance matters involving credit facilities, the issuance of equity and debt, securitizations, and compliance with existing security instruments including mortgages and indentures. In addition, Ms. Barrett advises electric utility clients developing, acquiring, and operating wind and solar projects in the State of Texas. She leads the firm’s due diligence investigations for each transaction and coordinates the firm’s attorneys practicing in the energy regulatory, state and local tax, environmental and real estate areas. She is regularly responsible for drafting and delivering third party legal opinion letters required as a condition to the closing of debt issuances and various types of project finance transactions.


Ms. Barrett is a graduate of The University of Texas School of Law where she earned her J.D. in 1998 and The University of Texas at Austin where she earned her B.A. (with High Honors) in 1994. She is licensed by the State Bar of Texas and is an inactive member of the State Bar of New Mexico. She serves as an active member of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association in which she is a current member of Council, a member of the Council Committee of the Membership Diversity and Inclusion Committee, a Co-Chair of the Business Law Now Editorial Board, and is the former Chair of the Credit Unions Committee and the Vice Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Credit Unions Committee.
